A VISIT TO LAGUNA TORREGUADIARO

WEATHER: hazy sunshine, top temp. 20C with a cool brreze.

I've heard that you have had a bit of rain in the UK, so I thought I wuld send you some pictures of blue sky and sunshine to cheer you up!! (or pee you off perhaps).

We arrived in Spain last Suinday and since then we have had 3 sunny days and 3 cloudy and wet days! During the good days we see Griffon Vultures over our House in Gaucin many times. I counted 27 one day!

Today, our 6th day, we venrured down to the coast for a walk along the beach and a small nature reserve at Torreguadiaro. A small laguna is surrounded by giant reeds which have been cropped recently and a board-walk gives you views of the water. This is a great site to see wintering Little Bitterns and sometimes Bluethroat.

Many Crag Martins were dashing over the water and the surrounding scrubland, Common Chiffchaffs flitted about in the reeds with Glodfinches and a few Stonechats. I heard Blackcap singing a sub-song, and several Sardinian Warblers were quite lively.

In and around the water I counted 11 Little Grebes, a Little Egret, a Purple Swamphen and a Cattle Egret flew over us. From the beach area I scanned the bay and saw many Yellow-legged Gulls, Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a few Gannets.

where are all the tourists?

at the end of the walk we watched a beautiful male Black Redstart flitting about on the walk-way and a couple of Large White Butterflies.

After lunch we drove back up to the village of Gaucin where our house came be found. The views from roadside are stunning, we saw Ravens and Griffon Vultures as we admired the views.
