A short walk near Crewkerne in Somerset on boxing day morning, it was dull, overcast and quite cold but there was plenty to see.

AT LONG LAST - CRAB PLOVER in the bag! We found 21 species of wader in one bay, a true testament to this brilliant birding country.

Some great sightings as we move further north, unfortunately the end of the trip is in sight! CRAB PLOVER still missing from the list but we did find Lesser Whistling Duck - only the fourth record for Oman of this rare species!

Day 1 of this 10-day trip found us in the capital of Oman, Muscat. A very busy, vibrant city on the northern coastline with some surprisingly good birding locations hidden in the urban sprawl.
