VALLE DE GUADIARO A short day today, we went out at 2:30pm after a morning of leisure in the village, it was another dry, hot day.........

After a late lunch we drove down towards the coast and turned into the Valley where the river Genal meets the river Guadiaro. Along the way we noted White Stork, Black Kite (unusual for this time of year), Common Raven, Woodchat Shrike, Corn Bunting, Stonechat, Crested Larks and Bee-eaters. Our first stop was at the Rio Genal, where we watched Little Ringed Plover, White Wagtail, Linnets, Turtle Dove and Booted Eagle.

Despite the beautiful sunny weather it was a little windy as we ventured further down the valley. We parked just after the site where the river Guadiaro meets the river Genal and walked along a raised bank. A Common Kingfisher was nice to see, it perched on a log then hovered a couple of times before flying off. We watched Bee-eaters visiting their nest holes, a family party of Sardinian Warblers in the scrub, a Common Sandpiper on the river bank and several finches coming down to drink.

my favourite bird - CORN BUNTING

After watching the river for a while we set off back to Gaucin, a Short-toed Eagle was nice sighting on the way back up the valley. That concluded our day's birding!
