PENNY HALE

I am greatly saddened to tell you that Penny Hale, a dear friend, passed away in the early hours of this morning. I send my deepest sympathy to John her husband, Zoe her daughter (both of whom were with her when she passed) and to the rest of the family.

Penny was always positive, always quick to smile and she saw only the good in everyone she met.

Penny doing what she loved best, birding in Colombia

Dawn and I first met Penny in Andalucia, where she lived on a lovely finca just outside of Casares with husband John. We established a lasting friendship through birdwatching and enjoyed many outings together.

on the trail near Georgetown, Guyana - a trip put together by Penny

An adventurous and inspiring woman, who travelled the world in pursuit of exotic birds, she encouraged me to visit South American. She organised recce trips for me to visit Guyana and Colombia and also Sri Lanka for which I shall be eternally grateful.

We shall miss her dearly (especially the cakes she used to bake for our birding trips). Goodbye dear Penny.
