SPAIN ANDALUCIA - GAUCIN – RIO GUADIARO

WEATHER: Much cooler today with a light breeze. 20C

Our migration trip finished yesterday and today Barbara and I took a leisurely rest at the side of the river Guadiaro down at Estacion de Cortes. We sat under my favourite tree with a picnic lunch and stayed there  for 6 hours.

We saw lots of birds as they came down to drink on the bank of the river, the water level is still high so many birds came down beneath overhanging bushes. I had forgotten to take my phone so I did not take many birdy pictures except some close ups of the Short-toed Treecreeper and of Barbara.

We saw a good number of species, apart the the locally common species we saw: Common Whitethroat, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Cetti’s Warbler, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff sp, Grey Wagtail and White Wagtail. The Willow Warblers in particular were in good numbers an indication that the migration season was truly underway.

We also saw a small group of Bee-eaters, Short-toed Eagle, Booted Eagle and Griffon Vulture. We left at 4pm well relaxed having enjoyed a lovely afternoon down buy the riverside.
