OBSERVATIONS FROM MY TERRACE AT VISTALMAR, MANILVA

I have been staying at our coastal apartment in Spain for the last 4 nights, the apartment sits in the middle of one of those modern urbanizations and doesn’t have a sea-view. Nevertheless, if you sit on the terrace any time of the day you will see some good birds.

THE VIEW  FROM MY TERRACE

For the last 3 days the weather has been warm and sunny, a little windy at times but nice enough to sit out after a hard days birding in the field.

Regular sightings from my terrace at this time of the year are: Black Redstarts, winter visitors in good numbers, likewise White Wagtails and Crag Martins.  Resident birds can also be seen everyday such as Blue Rock Thrush (they breed on the urbanization), Spotless Starlings, House Sparrows and Sardinian Warblers.

My view of the sky is limited but during this stay I have seen flyover:- Cattle Egret, Eurasian Kestrel, Common Buzzard, Barn Swallow and small flocks of Goldfinches and Chaffinches.

Tomorrow I leave for the UK very early in the morning, so I don’t anticipate adding to this list unless the local Eagle Owl turns up to see me off at 4am!
