MORNING WALK INTO YEO VALLEY

WEATHER: a little cooler than yesterday with a stronger breeze coming from the east. Sunny, dry and warm all day

The first part of my morning walk today was just around the meadows to the south of Yeo Valley before I walked into the valley for a short while.

Speckled Wood

It was really quiet and the strong breeze didn't help much, I saw very birds at all in the hedges. A single Blackcap was the only migrants I saw.

Fly-over species included: Common Buzzard, Common Kestrel, Eurasian Sparrowhawk and Herring Gull. I also saw a flock of Starlings, about 20 Goldfinches , a couple of Jays and a Green Woodpecker.

My walk into Yeo Valley was very short, I satyed within the first 50 meters where it was quite sheltered, I saw Southern Hawker & Common Darter Dragonflies as well as a few butterflies.

One surprise was a Comma Butterfly and some nice fresh Small Coppers, other butterflies eeen were: Small White, Meadow Brown and Speckled Wood.

Comma Butterfly - named after the little white comma shaped mark on the underside of the wing. What about those bright white legs?

After two hours I returned home with a very small bird list and half a dozen butterflies.
