It had been a very exceptionally cold and wet spring in Europe, this greatly affected the bird migration pattern. Most species were very late, some had not arrived at all! However, due to the wet conditions in March and April the flowers were prolific and this in turn encouraged a huge population of butterflies to emerge, the numbers of Persian Meadow Browns on Lesvos, were in the millions!! We had a great time throughout and eventually the weather improved to give some memorable days in the field.
