SEATON MARSHES AND LYME REGIS
AUGUST 25TH - SEATON MARSHES AND LYME REGIS
Before we embarked on our usual walk from Uplyme to Lyme Regis along the river Lim, Dawn and I took a diversion to nearby Seaton Marshes, to look for the RED-NECKED PHALAROPE that had been present since yesterday morning. It was quite a coincidence that Mike and Lorna Taylor, from Sheffield, text me to say they had just seen a Red-necked Phalarope too!
It was an easy 'twitch' the bird was showing well from a crowded Island Hide, although it was quite a distance away. Everyone got to see it but the toggers were disappointed.

Many other wader species were on show including a good number of Redshanks, a single Greenshank, Black-tailed Godwits, Common Sandpiper, Dunlin, Ringed Plover, Lapwings, Common Snipe and a single Spotted Redshank.

We stayed for 30 minutes but the Phalarope looked perfectly happy feeding along the distant shoreline of the lagoon and wasn't likely to get any closer, so we departed for Lyme Regis.
We walked along the River Lim to the sea-front at Lyme Regis and after eating a delicious avocado and bacon, toasted bagel, we walked to the Cobb and up through the gardens back to the river.

Birds on the Cobb included: Pied Wagtail, Rock Pipit, Cormorant, Shag and a single Great Black-backed Gull.
