ANDALUCIA MIGRATION TOUR  -  7 NIGHTS BASED IN TARIFA

  22nd  - 29th April, 2015

£850  -  based on two people sharing a double/twin room. Single supplement £120

What an exciting prospect this tour is, it offers you the opportunity to see tens of thousands of migrating birds of prey alongside Storks, Bee-eaters, Hoopoes and also many species of Gulls, Terns, Egrets, Herons, Waders and Ibis in nearby locations.

You will be based in a popular, good quality hotel on the out-skirts of Tarifa chosen for its close  proximity to the main migration routes in the heart of many superb birding sites. Birds are everywhere and all the time raptors will be drifting overhead, often right over the hotel.

During this tour you will visit a series of Migration look-out points situated along the hillsides between Tarifa and Algeciras, from where, if the weather conditions are right, you will see thousands of Honey Buzzards, Black Kites, Booted Eagles, Short-toed Eagles, White and Black Storks, Marsh & Montagu’s Harrier, Griffon Vultures and there is a possibility of seeing the rare Ruppell’s Vulture or the Long-legged Buzzard.

We also travel along the coast to an area where a small colony of Little Swifts has been established, whilst the now famous Bald Ibis colony at Vejer is doing very well.  For the last few years we also have the only breeding pair of Common Bubuls on mainland Europe, they are found in Tarifa itself.

Other coastal sites you will visit are: Los Lances Beach, Gibraltar, La Janda, Barbate Marshes, Bonanza Salt Pans and several excellent locations for some special species such as Eagle Owl, Bald Ibis,  Little Swift, Red-necked Nightjar, Wryneck and much more.

One day will be spent in the beautiful scenic mountains around Jimena, Gaucin, Cortes, Montejaque and Ronda, sightings may include: Black Wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Rock Sparrow, Pallid Swift, Alpine Swift, Red-billed Chough, Griffon Vulture, Short-toed Eagle, Honey Buzzard, Bonelli's Eagle, Golden Eagle, Hawfinch, Wryneck, Cirl Bunting, Bonelli's Warbler, Orphean Warbler, Firecrest, Woodlark, Thekla Lark, Black-eared Wheatear, Golden Oriole and Hoopoe.

Common Redstarts and Pied Flycatchers should be seen most days in good numbers and during your visit to Gibraltar you may see them in the hand at the migration Ringing- Station along with many other species which may include: Scops Owl, Red-necked Nightjar, Rufous Bush Robin, Orphean Warbler and Iberian Chiffchaff.

Expect to see between 150-170 species on this exciting Migration Tour to the Southern-most tip of Spain.
