This 7-night, 8-day Tour incorporates many of the best sites in one of the most prolific regions of Spain! Giving you the opportunity to enjoy a variety of wildlife not seen in many other regions of Europe. You will stay in a 4-star hotel with excellent food and facilities, situated on the door-step of the famous Monfrague National Park.
We stay north of Trujillo which is a central position from where you will discover the delights of this unique area, wide open landscapes, gently rising countryside covered in a mosiac of oak groves as far as the eye can see. Extremadura also has vast areas of open grassland, steppe, surrounded by a ring of mountains and provides perfect habitat for many endangered European species such as; the Spanish Imperial Eagle, Great and Little Bustards, Black-bellied and Pin-tailed Sandgrouse. We may also encounter the Great Spotted Cuckoo, European Bee-eater, Eurasian Hoopoe, European Roller, Golden Eagle, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Black Vulture, Black Stork and many larks, finches, pipits and buntings.
The oak groves support a vast variety of bird species we spend our time walking through open oak woodland where we search for the likes of Woodlark, Short-toed Treecreeper, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Rock Sparrow, Woodchat Shrike, Golden Oriole, Eurasian Hoopoe and several warblers. Bonelli's, Orphean and Subalpine Warblers both breed and pass-through this habitat.
The lakes and pools at Arrocampo are fringed with a border of reedbeds, we shall seek out Savi's, Great Reed and Cetti's Warblers as well as Egrets, Herons, Terns and Ducks.
