TRANSFER TO MALAGA AIRPORT AFTER BIRDING AT THE RIO GUADIARO (ESTACION CORTES), LLANOS DE LIBAR AND MONTEJAQUE CORK WOODS
Well our last day had arrived at last and the weather was a little bit better. The wind had shifted round to the west and had reduced quite significantly so we were able to find sheltered areas. We set out at 9am and drove to the Guadiaro Valley at Cortes where we were out of the blustery wind.
LA JANDA – VEJER – BARBATE MARSHES
The wind speed forecast was for much lower speeds today – what a joke! It was a total blow out at the coast, sometimes we couldn’t even open the car doors…………..
MARCHENILLA TRACK – RIO HOZGARGANTE – PRESA GUADARRANQUE – CASTILLO DE CASTELLAR – SAN ENRIQUE WOODS – LAGUNA TORREGUADIARO
It was another beautiful day but again the strong wind spoilt the birding somewhat………….
GAUCIN SWEET CHESTNUT WOODS – ENCINAS BORRACHES TRACK – CUEVA DE GATO – RONDA
It was a beautiful sunny day, clear sky and warm – but it was spoilt by a very strong easterly wind that blew all day!
TRANSFER FROM MALAGA AIRPORT TO GAUCIN WITH BIRDING STOPS AT GUADALMAR AND DESEMBOCADURA DE GUADALHORCE
Today I collected Dave and Vanda from the Holiday Inn at Malaga Airport, they are regular clients and great company. This is a short-break to look for summer birds and butterflies but I have a feeling that the butterflies will take a back seat on this trip.
We spent just over a week back in the UK with our very good friends from Pennsylvania, USA, John and Mary. They were keen to see some cultural sites, the beauty of Somerset, Dorset and Devon as well as some good bird sightings - we tried our best on all counts.....................
NEWGALE – LOWER SOLVA – ST DAVIDS HEAD – TRANSFER TO SWANSEA
Our last day was a bit of a wash-out, it rained persistently all day and we were often in the clouds! The rain was not heavy but it was very fine and very wet for most of the day. As the group were catching the 16:50 train from Swansea we had until 14:00 for birding and that is exactly what we did.
CARDIGAN WILDLIFE AND WETLANDS CENTRE – THE GANN – DALE
Anything we did today was going to be anticlimactic and underwhelming compared to yesterday’s birding extravaganza, even the weather was poor for most of the day as we made good use of our water-proof clothing.
MARTIN’S HAVEN & SKOMER ISLAND
Well, what a fantastic day we had perfect weather, it was sunny all day a cooling breeze, as we walked through stunning scenery in breath-taking landscapes. The wild flowers, the colours and the close proximity of thousands of birds make Skomer something really special.
